TIRZ 20’s project at 9680 Club Creek Drive benefits southwest Houston in different ways.

Its $13 million regional detention pond and basin protect against area flooding, with a capacity of at least 120 acre-feet of water — meaning the amount of water that would cover 120 acres at the height of one foot.

The project at 9680 Club Creek Drive also includes a playground and other park equipment as well as a Vietnam Veterans Memorial to the 538 people from the Houston area who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. A May 26, 2023 ceremony led by Mayor Sylvester Turner, TIRZ Chairman Welcome Wilson Jr., and other officials drew hundreds of people, including American-born and Vietnam-born military survivors.

The project is the result of a partnership among TIRZ 20, the City of Houston and the Harris County Flood Control District.
