Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 20) has received a $3 million Community Project Funding award through the office of Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher to improve the intersection at Harwin Drive and Hillcroft Avenue. The intersection is considered part of Houston’s “High Injury Network” due to its high rate of vehicle crashes.
The proposed project will improve the intersection’s safety for all users. It will also rehabilitate failing pavement, upgrade intersection-area stormwater conveyance infrastructure, enhance sidewalks and protect traffic signals from high winds and storms.
The project is one of several in the authority’s capital improvement plan to improve multimodal mobility and safety within its boundaries. Harwin/Gessner, a similar intersection improvement project, is under construction. The authority is also in the process of completing brick paver repairs along Bellaire Boulevard and concrete panel replacements along Corporate Drive.
The Harwin/Hillcroft project will use U.S. Department of Transportation funding that the authority believes can be made available in mid-to-late 2023. Construction may begin as soon as the second quarter of 2024 with completion in mid to late 2025.
